SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (September 24, 2016) — The Vassar College men's soccer team scored late and settled for a 1-1, double-overtime draw in its Liberty League opener with Skidmore College at Wachenheim Field on Saturday.

Freshman Mattie Mrlik scored the equalizer off of a throw in by Hayden Van Brewer in the 82nd minute. That goal leveled the game at one, as Austin Okoye had scored a goal, assisted by Nick Masiero, in the 62nd minute.

The Brewers outshot the Thoroughbreds 21-10 overall, taking three shots to the home team's zero in the second overtime. Goalkeeper Matt Marcelino made two saves over 110 minutes of playing time, while Derrick Yam made seven on the other end.

With the tie, the Brewers move to 6-1-2 overall and 0-0-1 in Liberty League play, while the Thoroughbreds move to 3-3-1 and 0-0-1, respectively.

Mrlik paces the Brewers with five goals on the year, adding four assists. The freshman's 14 total points are good for second in the Liberty League, only behind Union College's Andrew Fontaine (17 points). Van Brewer leads the team with five assists, which is also the second-most helps in the conference.

Vassar remains on the road for two more Liberty League meetings, playing at Clarkson University on Friday, Sept. 30 at 4 p.m. and St. Lawrence University on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m.
