Seven different Brewers found the back of the net, including Mattie Mrlik and Tanner Sands, who each tallied a goal and an assist. Sands helped on the game-winner, which was scored by Reid Smith in the 25th minute. All other goals were scored after the break, as Vassar outshot Elms by a total of 29-9.

A Look At The Brewers (5-0-0):
  • The Liberty League tabbed Hayden Van Brewer the Offensive Performer of the Week, Tyler Gilmore the Defensive Performer of the Week and Mattie Mrlik the Rookie of the Week on Monday for their respective performances during Vassar's 3-0 week last week. The full release can be read here.
  • The Brewers have opened the season with five straight victories for the first time since 2007.
  • Vassar graduated a senior class of 10, but added a talented freshman group of eight, including standouts Mattie Mrlik (363 minutes over five starts) and Henrik Olsson(154 minutes over five games played), who have both already earned substantial playing time.
  • Ten different Brewers have found the back of the net, including freshman forward Mattie Mrlik, who leads the offensive effort with nine points (three goals, three assists) on the season.
  • Tanner Sands has also greatly contributed on the offensive end, logging seven points on three goals, including a game-winner, and an assist.
  • Goalkeeper Matt Marcelino has started in net for the Brewers in all five of their contests. The junior has conceded just two goals, while making 13 stops for a 5-0 record, including a clean sheet.
  • Vassar has outshot opponents 92-44 overall and 44-15 in shots-on-goal. The Brewers are averaging 3.2 goals per game, with 11 of their 16 tallies coming after the break.
  • The Brewer defense has been phenomenal, shutting out three teams so far in Mount Saint Mary College (Sept. 4), William Paterson University (Sept. 10) and Elms College (Sept. 11).
  • After registering two goals and a pair of assists in the inaugural Vassar College Classic over the weekend, Mattie Mrlik was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Hayden Van Brewer (two points on two assists) and Reid Smith (game-winner vs. Elms) were also named to the All-Tournament Team, as Vassar topped William Paterson 2-0 on Saturday and Elms 7-0 on Sunday.
  • The Brewers look to build upon last season, in which they finished 8-6-2 overall and 4-4-0 in the Liberty League.

A Look At The Hawks (3-0-2):
  • The Hawks are unbeaten with a 3-0-2 mark, having most recently drawn with William Paterson 1-1 at the Vassar College Classic on Sept. 11. Junior midfielder Ben Zilka scored the game's first goal in the 27th minute, thanks to a cross from junior midfielder Aleco Podias.
  • New Paltz has yet to play at home, going 3-0-1 in neutral-site, tournament play and 0-0-1 on the road.
  • Seven different Hawks have found the back of the net, led by senior Sam Spring with three goals this season. Two of his goals came in New Paltz's 5-0 win over Elms (Sept. 10). The midfielder has played in all five games, starting one.
  • Senior midfielder Charlie Versen has three points (one goal, one assist) on the season, while senior defender Arthur Angst, junior midfielder Ben Zilka, senior forward Tucker Stern, freshman forward Luke Dole and freshman midfielder/defender Coltan Goodwine all have two points on one goal.
  • Goalkeepers John Guzzo (2-0-1) and Mark Nowak (1-0-1) have split time in net. Both have registered one shutout on the season. Guzzo has allowed one goal, stopping six, while Nowak has conceded one goal, stopping eight.
  • New Paltz has outshot opponents 65-37 overall and 32-16 in shots-on-goal. As far as shots-on-goal percentages go, the Hawks hold an edge, 49 percent to their opponents' 43 percent.
  • Of the Hawks nine goals, five of them have been assisted.
  • New Paltz has seemingly been more production before the break, totaling six goals in the first half and three in the second.
  • New Paltz finished last season 10-8-1 overall and 3-6-0 in SUNYAC play after starting the season 4-0. The Hawks lost three of their four final games, tying in the other, to end the season.

Against New Paltz All-Time: This will mark the second meeting between the Vassar and New Paltz men's soccer teams. The two most recently met in 2002 when the Brewers walked away with a 2-1 triumph.

Next Up: Vassar hits the road to face Oneonta on Saturday, Sept. 17. Kickoff at Red Dragon Field in Oneonta, NY is set for 2 p.m.
