Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Vassar Falls 2-1 After MIT's Quick Start

HOBOKEN, NJ (September 11, 2016) — Audrey Pillsbury scored in the 61st minute, as the Vassar College women's soccer team was edged by Massachusetts Institute of Technology 2-1 on the second day of the Stevens Engineering Cup at De Baun Athletics Complex in Hoboken, NJ on Sunday.

"We did not compete for the full 90 minutes today," coach Corey Holton said. "Against good teams, we need to come out strong and maintain for the entire match."

MIT quickly got on the board, as Olivia Struckman scored in the third minute, thanks to an assist from Amy Apostol, 1-0. Just like the Engineers had done in the first half, they came out strong in the second. Three minutes into the new half, Struckman returned the favor, passing to Montana Reilly, who poked in MIT's second goal, 2-0.

Not to be deterred, the Brewers found the back of the net in the 61st minute. Sara Sepers' initial shot hit off the crossbar before Audrey Pillsbury collected the rebound to score her second goal in as many days.

Vassar seemingly won the possession battle, outshooting MIT 12-9. Goalkeeper Lauren Ullmann earned the win for MIT (3-2-0) with three saves, while Stephanie Tapolsky took the loss for Vassar (1-4-0) with one stop.

Vassar returns home to Poughkeepsie to face Oneonta on Saturday, Sept. 17. Kickoff at Gordon Field is set for 12 p.m.
