AMSTERDAM , N.Y.—The Union College baseball team earned a pivotal Liberty League doubleheader sweep against Vassar Saturday at Shuttleworth Park. Union took game one 3-0 before posting a 6-1 win in game two.
The Dutchmen, who surpassed the 20-win plateau for the fourth consecutive season, improve to 21-12 overall and 13-7 in Liberty League play, while the Brewers go to 18-19 overall and 12-10 in the conference.
In game one, Jake Fishman pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just six hits and striking out seven with no walks to improve to 6-0 on the mound. Eric Egan produced three RBIs for the second consecutive game, going 2-for-3 to lead the offense. Kent Curran finished a perfect 3-for-3 for the contest.
Egan put Union in front 1-0 in the bottom of the first, scoring Jake Vesling with an RBI groundout. Following two scoreless frames, Egan produced what proved to be the game's final runs, poking a two run home-run just inside the right-field foul pole.
The three runs were more than enough support for Fishman, who lowered his Division III-leading ERA to 0.37 with the shutout.
Trent Berg went the distance on the mound for the Brewers, allowing three earned runs on eight hits with no walks and five strikeouts.
In game two, the Dutchmen got another solid outing from their starting pitcher. Adam Ashenfarbregistered his second win of the year, surrendering one earned run on three hits, while walking two and striking out six over 7 2/3 innings.
Curran extended his hitting streak to nine games, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Fishman was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a double and Harrison Glatt was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.
Union opened the scoring in the bottom of the third when Curran drove in Fishman with a double to left.
Vassar answered in the top of the fourth, tying the game with its lone run of the contest.

Joe Conti kept the Dutchmen scoreless in the fifth and sixth, but Union's bats came alive in the seventh.
Glatt hit a leadoff single and advanced to second on a groundout. Anthony Amoroso reached on a throwing error in the next at-bat, which allowed Glatt to scamper home. Vesling doubled the lead, bringing in Amoroso with an RBI double to right center to make it 3-1.
In the bottom of the eighth, Glatt's produced an RBI double and scored on Wiley Knight's single up the middle one batter later. Mike Fitzsimmons notched his third RBI of the season in the next at-bat with a double to straightaway center, giving the Dutchmen a 6-1 advantage.
Matt Yonta and Jamie Faber combined for 1 1/3 innings of no-hit relief to close out the game.
Conti was tagged with the loss on for the Brewers, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits with one walk and four strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings.
Vassar and Union will finish their regular season Sunday, as VC celebrates Senior Day at noon on Prentiss Field in two huge Liberty League.
