WESTFIELD, MA (May 19, 2016) — The Brewers neared a school record in the 4x1,000-meter race, as the Vassar College men's track team competed in Day 2 of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship in Westfield, MA on Thursday.
Kyle Estrada, Elijah Winston, Dylan Manning and Taylor Vann missed the school record by 0.01 with a 42.93 time in the 4x100-meter relay. All of them had solid handoffs and great efforts, finishing 20th in the fifth heat.
"Our entire team trains hard year round, and it's always the last three weeks of the season where they realize the positive effects of their efforts," said coach Justin Harris. "It's a long-term plan that requires patience, belief and confidence, which is not easy to stay committed to these days. Our athletes showed us during the entire ECAC experience that if you stay on the plan, great things can happen."
Gabe Fishman performed well in the 1500-meter race with a 3:59.70 time, but ran out of gas just one day removed of a 4x4000-meter relay performance.
"We couldn't be more proud of the effort our athletes put out over the two days," said coach James McCowan. "They all supported each other's ambitions, which is something that we enjoy watching every year."
The Brewers next compete in the NCAA's, beginning May 26 in Waverly, Iowa.
"This is another season for the record books," Haris said. "We are excited to carry that momentum into the NCAA Championships with Taylor Vann next week."
