Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Parson's Game-Winner Lifts VC Over Clarkson, 10-9

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 9, 2016) — The Vassar College men's lacrosse team notched its first win over Clarkson University in program history at home Saturday afternoon, 10-9.

With the win, the Brewers improve to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Golden Knights fall to 2-8 and 0-3 in the Liberty League.

Noah Parson netted four goals for Vassar, including the game-winner with 1:11 remaining in regulation. James Thomas and Brandon DeStasio added two apiece, while Liam Moriarty and Chris Billups each tacked on a goal.

Defensively, Thomas and Sam Houston-Read grabbed three ground balls apiece, while Parson picked up two.

Goalkeeper Brandon Crecco earned the win with a season-high 24 saves, while Nick Strandhold took the loss with 14.

For the Golden Knights, Ryan St. Croix scored a game-high five goals, while Ryan DaRin notched two. Nate Smart and Sam Groves tallied one apiece as well.

Vassar came out ready to roll, scoring the first two goals of the game. Parson passed to Billups for his 12th goal of the season before finding the back of the net himself with the help of Houston-Read, 2-0.

DaRin got the Golden Knights on the board, but Parson responded with his second goal of the game, assisted by Liam Neville, to put the Brewers ahead 3-1 to go into the second stanza.

Clarkson scored three unanswered to start the second and take its only lead of the contest, 4-3. A minute later, Parson found Thomas for the freshman's 10th goal of the season.

That goal would be the first of three: DeStasio scored the next before dishing to Moriarty for his eighth goal of the season, 6-4.

The teams exchanged goals before Parson ended the third quarter with a buzzer-beater and Thomas started the fourth with his 11th goal of the season. Clarkson's late-game push knotted the game at nine, but again, Parson came in clutch to score the game-winner, his team-leading 27th goal of the season.

With the clock running down, Crecco made the save to secure the Brewer victory.

The Brewers hope to carry this momentum on the road, as they next compete at Farmingdale State College (Wednesday, April 13 at 6 p.m.), St. Lawrence University (Saturday, April 16 at noon) and Williams College (Wednesday, April 20 at 6 p.m.) before returning home for the last two home games of the regular season on April 23rd and 27th.
