Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Goldstein Moves To Second In All-Time Points

SCHENECTADY, NY (April 29, 2016) — Senior attack Isabelle Goldstein now has the second-most points in Vassar College women's lacrosse history after posting six at Union College in Friday's 17-9 setback.

"She's the total package," coach Judy Finerghty said of Goldstein. "Really skilled, terrific athlete. Hard worker. Incredibly unselfish. Loves to play, loves the game, loves to set people up and be a playmaker. She's just a complete player all the way around and has the athletic gift to match her desire."

Goldstein has compiled 231 points over her four-year collegiate career, which eclipses Sarah Warner's (Class of 2011) record of 227. She is nine points away from tying the all-time record of 240, currently held by Ali Fantl (Class of 2007).

Goldstein netted five goals and dished out an assist for her fifth six-plus point game of the season. Julia Trudell totaled five points on two goals and three assists, while Storm Sideleau finished with two goals.

Sydney Spadinger led the defensive effort with a team-high four ground balls and three forced turnovers, while also winning a draw control.

Goalkeeper Kristin Caolo took the loss for the Brewers (6-8, 2-6 Liberty) with three saves in 30 minutes, while Jen Hughes earned the win for the Dutchwomen (10-4, 7-1 Liberty) with two saves in 41, as Union outshot Vassar, 33-18.

Maggie Comiskey led the Dutchwomen with 10 points on a goal and nine assists, while Jackie Hagpian netted five goals in the contest. In total, nine Dutchwomen found the back of the net.

Free-position shots made a difference in the game, as Union outshot Vassar 10-1 in that category.

The Dutchwomen opened the contest with a 9-1 run, with Sideleau breaking up the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 21:27 mark.

"We just had a tough time starting off. They jumped out to a 9-1 lead," Finerghty said. "They came down to our end, and they were just able to capitalize."

The Brewers mustered some momentum going into the break, as they outscored the Dutchwomen 4-1 to end the first half. Trudell found Goldstein for the first goal before Goldstein turned around and helped Sideleau for the second.

"Once we finally broke the ice and started scoring, it was a little better game for us," Finerghty said. "We showed some flashes, but now we have to tie it all together and play consistently throughout the game.

Trudell capped the 3-0 spurt before the Dutchwomen ended their scoring drought with a goal of their own. Phoebe Hankins' helper to Goldstein cut the lead in half, 10-5.

Union scored five straight to open up the second half before Trudell found Goldstein about midway through the period, 15-6.

"Union's a great team," Finerghty said. "They're ranked first in the league for a reason. We showed that we can play with them in spurts. We just need to play more consistently in order to compete with them and come out with a win, but I thought we actually did play a hard-fought game today."

The Dutchwomen tacked on two more before the Brewers netted the last three. In that span, Goldstein secured her 34th and 35th goal of the season before Trudell notched her 27th, thanks to an assist from Spadinger.

Goldstein has been a cornerstone for the Brewers all season. She is second on the team in goals (35) and first in assists (25) and points (60). The senior will play her final game with the program on Saturday when Vassar women's lacrosse plays at William Smith College in Geneva, NY at 3 p.m.
