TROY, NY (April 2, 2016) – The Vassar College men's lacrosse team battled early, but ultimately lost 17-5 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday.
With the loss, the Brewers fall to 4-4 and 1-1 in conference play, while the Engineers improve to 6-2 and 2-1 in the Liberty League.
The Brewers put forth a balanced effort, as all five of their goals were scored by different Brewers.
Noah Parson notched his 18
th goal of the season,
Sam Houston-Read his 13
th,
Brandon DeStasio his eighth,
James Thomas his eighth and
Liam Moriarty his sixth. Moriarty dished out two assists, while Thomas handed out one.
On the defensive end, DeStasio, Houston-Read and
Austin Haymes picked up three ground balls apiece. Goalkeeper
Brandon Crecco took the loss with 10 saves, while David Gibbs earned the win with 2.
Breannainn McNeally scored five goals, CJ Kigar had three and Jake Weidner finished with two to lead the Engineers.
RPI jumped out to an early 5-0 lead before Thomas sparked a 3-0 run for Vassar with 5:20 remaining in the second quarter. Moriarty found him and DeStasio for the first two goals of the surge before Parson potted one on his own to cap it, 5-3.
Moriarty did all of his assisting in the first half before he netted a goal himself in the second, 7-5. The Engineers began to run away with the game, scoring the next five goals in the third quarter before the Brewers ended the period with a Houston-Read goal, assisted by Thomas. That was the last goal Vassar scored in the contest.
The Vassar men's lacrosse team heads home to Poughkeepsie for games against Drew University (Tuesday, April 5 at 6 p.m.) and Clarkson University (Saturday, April 9 at 12 p.m.).
