Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Vassar Cruises To 16-11 Road Win

DANBURY, CT (March 30, 2016) — The Vassar College women's lacrosse team blitzed Western Connecticut early and held on for a 16-11 win on the road Wednesday.

With the win, the Brewers improve to 4-2, while the Colonials drop to .500, 3-3.

Vassar scored the first seven goals on its way to taking an 11-1 lead at the break. Western never backed down, however, and got as close as five with its final goal.

Vassar showcased its depth in the team win: Storm Sideleau (5 goals), Isabelle Goldstein (3 goals, 3 assists), Emily Hamburger (2 goals), Lindsay Wolk (2 goals), Julia Trudell (1 goal, 3 assists), Fiona MacLeod (1 goal), Kim Mulvehill (1 goal) and Gabi Patick (1 goal) all found the back of the net.

On the defensive end, Olivia O'Loughlin paced the Brewers with three forced turnovers and two ground balls. Ashley LaMere forced two and grabbed two, while Darby Stahl forced two and grabbed one.

Goalkeeper Kristin Caolo earned the win for Vassar with six saves, while Missy O'Donnel took the loss with 11.

Olivia Kosilla led Western with three goals, while Destinee Carey, Meaghan Gustafson and Brooke Hellman each netted two. Raquel Heitor and Marisa Remley tacked on one apiece as well.

The Brewers outshot the Colonials 35-23 and grabbed just as many ground balls as them with 12.  They dominated the draw controls, 17-12, which especially helped them early in the contest.

Trudell, who won a game-high six draw controls, scored the first goal of the game to spark a 7-0 run. Sideleau highlighted the surge with three goals before Western scored its first with 19:12 on the clock.

Vassar ended the half scoring the last four goals. Goldstein scored two in that span, including a man-up goal with about five minutes remaining. Patick, a freshman, notched her first goal in her collegiate career, further adding to the energy.

After trailing 11-1 at the break, the Colonials came out ready to battle. They scored two of the first four goals, broken up by two from Sideleau, before scoring three in a row, 13-6. Wolk netted back-to-back goals to give the Brewers a 16-8 cushion before the Colonials scored the last three of the contest.

The Vassar women's lacrosse team kicks off conference play on the road against Bard College in Annandale-On-Hudson, NY. The game is set for 4 p.m. on Friday, April 1. The Brewers look to stay undefeated against their neighbors up the road, having won their past four meetings.
