Hankins, Hamburger Highlight Vassar's 18-11 Win

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY (April 1, 2016) — The Vassar College women's lacrosse team notched its third straight win Friday at Bard College, 18-11, behind stellar performances by Phoebe Hankins and Emily Hamburger

With the win, the Brewers improve to 5-2 overall an 2-0 in conference play, while the Raptors fall to 3-3 and 0-1 in the Liberty League.

Hankins was phenomenal, logging a game-high seven points with six assists and a goal. With the career-high in assists, she now has 11 on the season.

Of the Brewers' 18 goals, 11 were assisted, which coach Judy Finerghty said was the difference-maker.

"Our offensive distribution was key," Finerghty said. "(Bard) had more one-v-one attackers, whereas we had a lot more passing going on."

Hamburger doubled her career-high with four goals in the contest, as 10 Brewers found the back of the net.

"She always shoots really hard," Finerghty said of Hamburger. "She can really find the corners."

Lindsay Wolk (3 goals, 1 assist), Fiona MacLeod (2 goals, 1 assist), Storm Sideleau (2 goals), Julia Trudell (2 goals, 1 assist), Hannah Cho (1 goal), Gabi Patick (1 goal), Isabelle Goldstein (1 goal) and Kim Mulvehill (1 goal, 2 assists) all scored as well.

"Just a solid effort by everybody," Finerghty said.

Goalkeeper Kristin Caolo picked up her third win of the season with six saves in the contest.

"She always keeps us in games," Finerghty said. "Today was no different."

Hamburger opened scoring five minutes into the contest, thanks to an assist from Hankins, 1-0.

"She got a shot off nice and early, so it's good to see her do that to get some points on the board."

The Brewers rattled off three more goals before the Raptors scored their first, 4-1.

"We were able to get on the board pretty quickly and score pretty consistently without a lot of trouble today, so I think it just gave us some momentum," Finerghty said. "We got a lot of confidence early."

Vassar outscored Bard 5-3 the rest of the half to take a 9-4 advantage into the break. Sideleau came out hot in the second half, scoring back-to-back goals to get her team-leading 20th of the season.

The Raptors responded with a pair of their own to trim the deficit to 17-10, but Wolk potted her seventh goal of the season to round out the Brewers' day of scoring.

Vassar went 14-14 with clears and grabbed more than twice as many ground balls as Bard, 20-8.

Kaylynn Tran took the loss, blocking seven shots in the process. Casey Witte and Nicole Ellin led the Raptors with four goals apiece, while Carla Sanchez scored two and Alexandra Clarke tacked on one.

The Vassar women's lacrosse team returns to Poughkeepsie for a pair of home games. The first is against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Friday, April 8 at 4 p.m.) and the second is versus Skidmore College for the Friends of Jaclyn Day game (Saturday, April 9 at 2 p.m.)
