BUFFALO, NY (March 19, 2016) – The No. 10 Vassar College men's volleyball team upped its winning streak to a season-best five matches Saturday afternoon at Medaille College, knocking off the host Mavericks in four games in non-conference action. VC defeated Medaille with scores of 25-19, 25-18, 23-25 and 25-20.
Vassar took an early match lead in the first thanks to nine blocks in the opening set, eight coming from freshman
George Diehl. According to the records available at press, Diehl's eight blocks in the first set marked the most in a single game ever at Vassar. The Brewers led by seven at 12-5 after a solo block by Diehl, but Medaille chipped away and trailed by just two at 17-15 after a serving error by VC.
The Brewers calmed down and chalked up three straight points, two on Diehl rejections, to pull away for the 25-19 win in game one. Vassar's offense continued to hit well in the second set, connecting on a .362 hitting percentage to take an early 2-0 edge in the match.
Medaille College battled back with a win in the third set, going on an 8-1 run through the middle part of the season to take a 21-16 lead. VC didn't go away, fending off four set points but Sam Bloomburg earned the set win for the Mavericks with a kill. In the fourth, Vassar chalked up a pair of 6-0 runs during the set, and
Reno Kriz chalked up four kills to push VC to the non-conference triumph.
Sophomore middle hitter
Matthew Knigge finished with a match-high of 12 points, hitting .688 in the match, while Kriz finished with a double-double of 11 kills and 11 digs. Kriz added three blocks, and junior captain

Vassar College sophomore setter
Zechariah Lee continued his strong play Saturday, posting five kills on six attacks, while dishing out 31 assists and chalking six aces and four blocks. Diehl chalked up nine total blocks on the game, adding three kills as well. The win streak of five is the longest since the 2013 season, when Vassar also posted a five-game win stretch that year.

The Brewers will now travel to Jamaica, NY Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. to take on the Cardinals of York College (NY) in non-conference action.
