TUSCON, AZ (March 19, 2016) -- Sophomore
Kyle Estrada and junior
Gabe Fishman each had strong efforts for the Brewers, as the Vassar Collee men's track team concluded its spring break trip to Arizona with the final day of competition from the Willie Williams Classic, hosted by the University of Arizona.
Estrada ran against a very talented field in the 400 meter dash as he took home 13th place with a 50.93, which just missed a personal best of 50.63, set last year at the 2015 Liberty League Championships. Fishman ran a personal best in the 800 meter run, finishing fourth with a time of 1:55.36. The time was just off what was invited to the ECAC Championships last year, but still a strong start to the season for the junior.
Senior decathlete
Taylor Vann ran the 110 hurdles on Saturday for the Brewers, posting a time of 15.92, which was just off his personal best time in the event of 15.51. Freshman
Ry Blume competed in the 800 meter run, crossing the line in under two minutes, registering a time of 1:59.82 for 11th place. Sophomore
Jared Freedman took 13th in the 800 after running a 2:01.56, as VC put three runners in the top 13 in the 800.
Senior
Peter Winkeller competed in the 100 meter dash, clocking in with a time of 11.62, just 0.07 seconds off his personal best set back in 2014. Vassar's 4x400 meter relay finished the competition for Vassar, posting a very good time of 3:25.42, thanks to the efforts of Blume, FIshman, Vann and Estrada. Sophomore
Michael Walsh competed in the triple jump, posting a distance of 11.49 meters for 12th place.
"We had some strong performances that were setup with great mindsets heading into each event and followed through with great efforts," said interim head coach
Justin Harris. "we need to build from here in order for our athletes to maximize the potential that they have. It won't be easy and we know they can do it because they have done it each year."
Vassar will have a week off from competition before heading to Monmouth University next Saturday, March 26 for action from West Long Branch, NJ.
