ORANGE, CA (March 15, 2016) — The Vassar College women's tennis team claimed its first victory in California, with a 6-3 win over Chapman University on Tuesday.
A strong showing in doubles gave the Brewers the momentum they needed to clinch the team win in singles. At No. 2 doubles,
Kate Christensen and
Morgan Fitzgerald downed Nicole Fouts and Danielle Simmons, 8-0, while
Morgane Flournoy and
Dasha Ivenitsky defeated Annie Sullivan and Maya Nowak, 8-0, at No. 3 doubles.
As a pair, Christensen and Fitzgerald are now 10-3 on the season in doubles, while Flournoy and Ivenitsky earned the win in their first match together.
Carrying a 2-1 lead into singles gave the Brewers an extra boost to get the job done. Christensen continued to impress, securing a 7-6 (11-9), 7-5 win over Andrea Hammer at the one spot.
Kelsey Van Noy picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win over Fouts at the three, Fitzgerald notched a 6-1, 6-1 win over Danielle Simmons at the four, and
Connie Yoo secured a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Alisa Rotfeld at the six.
With the win, the Brewers improve to 6-3 on the season, while the Panthers fall to 0-6.
The Vassar women's tennis team heads to Irvine, CA, where it will face Amherst College at University High School on Thursday, March 17 at 10 a.m.
