THOUSAND OAKS, CA (March 13, 2016) – The Vassar College women's tennis team dazzled in doubles before falling to California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, CA on Saturday.
Kelsey Van Noy and
Lauren Stauffer notched No. 2 doubles 9-7 against Rebecca Gold and Sarah Seeman, while
Kate Christensen and
Morgan Fitzgerald claimed No. 3 doubles 8-5 against Christie Kurdys and Shelby Kubota.
Van Noy and Stauffer are now 9-7 overall in doubles, having won their past two matches, while Christensen and Fitzgerald are 9-3, also having won their past two.
The Brewers took a 2-1 advantage into singles play, where they struggled to maintain their momentum.
Morgane Flournoy secured No. 6 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Shelby Kubota, but that was the only victory that Vassar saw after doubles. Flournoy is now 7-7 in singles.
Fitzgerald put up an incredible fight against Kurdys at No. 4 singles, ultimately losing in the super tiebreaker, 4-5, 6-2, 6-1.
All other Brewers scored at least a point in singles play, as Christensen lost 6-4, 6-1 at the one,
Courtney Geiss fell 6-2, 7-5 at the two, Van Noy was defeated 6-0, 7-5 at the three, and
Shayna Becker was bested 6-3, 6-0 at the five.
The Brewers continue their spring break stint in California on Monday. Vassar will face Washington College (MD) at University High School in Irvine at 10 a.m.
