POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (March 11, 2016) – The No. 12 Vassar College men's volleyball team held visiting Hunter College to .055 hitting Friday evening, as the Brewers earned the four-set, non-conference victory in action from Kenyon Hall. Vassar won the first two games 25-18 and 25-21, fell in the third set 25-21, but earned the win with a 25-20 fourth game.
The defensive effort from Wednesday night's five-set win continued Friday evening, as the Brewers (16-5) totaled 10.5 blocks while chalking up 62 digs. The 62 digs were the second-most of the season for VC, eclipsed only by the 66 digs posted back against Stevens Institute of Technology February 10.
Vassar was paced once again by senior
Reno Kriz, who continued to have a fantastic senior season. Kriz posted a big double-double of 20 kills and 10 digs, which was his second double-double of the season. Middle hitter
Matthew Knigge registered 11 kills and seven total blocks, which was the sixth time this campaign that the sophomore has had seven or more seven or more rejections in a game.
Junior
Trey Cimorelli also had a fantastic game in the back, registering 17 digs on the year, the most for the libero in 2016. The Brewers hit .217 for the match, totaling 56 kills on the day, including eight finishes by freshman
George Diehl and seven kills by
Brian Manley.
Zechariah Lee finished with 46 assists and eight digs, while junior
Christian Lizana posted five kills and nine digs on the evening.
Vassar will be off for a week before heading to Hamburg, NY to take on D'Youville College and Hilbert College with action starting at 6 p.m. in non-conference action.
