Vassar College Men’s Squash Notes - Liberty League Championships

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (February 3, 2016) – The Vassar College men's squash team will enter the Liberty League Championship weekend with a 1-7 record. Last weekend, the Brewers dropped two matches to Colgate University and Boston University at home on Senior Day.

What To Look For
The Brewers have lost the past six matches. On January 30th, Colgate University bested the Vassar men's team by a score of 7-2, and Boston University earned wins in all eight positions it had players, earning an 8-1 victory. Earning wins against Colgate, were sophomore Andrew Patton at No. 8 for Vassar, with an 11-8, 12-10, and 11-5 win, while junior Richard Bryenton won at No. 9 with scores of 11-4, 11-9, and 11-4. The Brewers' last win occurred in late October, when they defeated Siena College 9-0.

A Look At the St. Lawrence Saints (8-2)
St. Lawrence is ranked sixth in the country as of January 24th by the Dunlop Men's College Squash Association Team Rankings. The Saints are currently on a three game win streak against a tough schedule, having defeated no. 7 Harvard University 5-4, no. 12 Cornell University 8-1, and no. 10 Franklin and Marshall College 9-0. Their last loss came from no. 4 Yale, who defeated St. Lawrence by a score of 6-3. Their only other loss of the season came from the University of Pennsylvania in a tight match that resulted in a 5-4 defeat. Four of the Saints' eight victories have been 9-0 wins. No. 1 seed Amr Khalifa is a perfect 8-0 so far this season, and is ranked among the world's best players.

A Look at the Bard Raptors (8-3)
Bard opened their season with a 6-3 victory over Vassar on October 24th. Vassar earned wins at the No. 1, No. 4, and No. 9. The Raptors are coming off a 9-0 victory over the University of Vermont on January 30th. Earlier in the day, they fought a close match against common opponent Boston University, which resulted in a 5-4 loss. In December, Bard defeated Colgate 8-1, earning wins at the 2 through 9 spots.

A Look at the University of Rochester Yellowjackets (6-2)
The University of Rochester is ranked third in the nation as of January 24th by the Dunlop Men's CSA Team Rankings. They last defeated no. 10 Franklin and Marshall 9-0, and prior to that suffered a 5-4 loss to the top team in the nation, Trinity College. Their only other loss of the season came in December to no. 2 University of Pennsylvania. No. 1 Marlo Yanez Tapia has as 6-2 record, while Ryosei Kobayashi is 7-1 at the No. 2 position.

A Look at the Hobart Statesmen (5-8)
The Statesmen will look to recover this weekend having lost the past four matches to NESCAC opponents, Colby, Bowdoin, Wesleyan, and no. 1 Trinity. Prior to the losses, they posted four consecutive wins in December and January. Josh Oakley has an 8-4 overall record at the No. 1 position.
