Seff Notches Double-Double In VC Setback

MIDDLETOWN, CT (December 7, 2016) — The Vassar College men's basketball team (4-4) fell to undefeated Wesleyan University (8-0) on the road Wednesday, 77-53.

Alex Seff notched his second double double of the season with 18 points and 11 boards to lead the Brewers. Jesse Browne added nine points, five rebounds and three steals, while Mason Dyslin finished with six points and three boards.

The Brewers shot 28 percent from the floor and 24 percent (7-of-29) from three, while the Cardinals shot 46 and 30 percent (6-of-20), respectively.

Salim Green finished with 15 points and five rebounds for Wesleyan, while Joseph Kuo added eight points and 13 boards. Andrew Gardiner tallied 11 points with two triples off the bench.

The contest featured two ties and two lead changes before the Cardinals began to pull away.

Browne and Dyslin notched two of the first three field goals to give the Brewers a 4-0 advantage.  But the Cardinals' offense caught fire, as they extended their lead to 19-10 about midway through the first half.

Dyslin and Seff stopped the Brewer drought with a pair of baskets, a layup and a jumper, to get Vassar within 19-14.

The Brewers later got within 26-20, thanks to consecutive triples from Browne and Seff, but the Cardinals scored the final five points to take a 31-20 advantage into the break.

Wesleyan continued to find the bottom of the net in the second half before Mattie Mrlik drained Vassar's first field goal, a triple to make it 35-23 ballgame. Seff notched the next two Brewer buckets, connecting on a pair of jumpers, 44-27.

Seff strung together another sequence down the stretch, knocking down a pair of free throws and hitting a jumper to get Vassar within 63-37.

The Brewers' final three field goals all came from beyond the arc, as Josh Brownridge, Chris Gallivan and Hunter Gettings found the bottom of the net.

Vassar continues its six-game road trip, playing at Skidmore College on Friday, Dec. 30 at 4 p.m. and Union College on Saturday, Dec. 31 at 2 p.m.
