WILLIAMSTOWN, MA (December 1, 2016) — Three Brewers reached double figures, as the Vassar College men's basketball team (4-3) fell to undefeated Williams College (6-0) on the road Thursday, 78-55.
Mason Dyslin totaled 13 points on 50 percent shooting, Alex Seff added another 13 points with two triples and Jesse Browne finished with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists. Owen Murray also contributed across the board with four points, six rebounds and a team-high two steals.
The Brewers shot 40 percent from the floor and 29 percent (6-of-21) from three, while the home team shot 52 and 42 (10-of-24) percent, respectively.
Cole Teal led Williams with 22 points, as four Ephs notched double-digit scoring: starter Kyle Scadlock finished with 15 points, while reserves James Heskett (13) and Mike Greenman (10) were productive off the bench.
Despite playing in front of a spirited crowd on the road, the Brewers found success early in the game. Seff opened the contest with a three-pointer before driving to the basket for a layup, and Browne capped the burst with another triple to make it an 8-1 ballgame with 17:38 to go.
The Ephs responded with a run of their own to knot it at 10, and the game was nip-and-tuck from there before Williams ended the half with a 9-2 run to take a 37-32 advantage into the break.
Just like the Brewers had started the first half with energy, the same was true for the second. Seff and Dyslin connected on consecutive layups to pull within one, but the Ephs ripped off a 15-5 run to take a 13-point advantage, 54-41.
They continued to build their lead down the stretch, outscoring the Brewers 41-23 in the second half.
About midway through the period, the Brewers hit back-to-back baskets — a layup by Murray and a triple by Browne — to trim the deficit to 59-49, but that was the closest they came to flipping the lead in their favor the rest of the way.
Through seven games, Browne (16.7ppg), Seff (16.0ppg) and Dyslin (12.4ppg) round out the Brewers' top scorers. Murray has also been dominant, leading the team in rebounds per game (5.6), assists per game (3.3) and total steals (16).
Vassar continues its six-game road trip at Wesleyan University on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Tipoff from Middletown, CT is set for 7 p.m.
