POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 22, 2016) — The Vassar College men's basketball team (3-1) took its first loss of the season, falling 92-84 to Maritime College (2-2) at the Athletics and Fitness Center on Tuesday.

Jesse Browne tallied a team-high 22 points, as 10 Brewers found the bottom the net. Mason Dyslin (16 points), Hunter Gettings (14) and Alex Seff (10) rounded out the Brewers' top scorers.

The Brewers shot 44 percent from the floor, 33 percent (10-of-30) from downtown and 47 percent from the line, while their visitors shot 51, 50 (12-of-24) and 74 percent, respectively.

As for Maritime's leading scorers, John Liccese poured in 24 points and 14 assists in his season debut, as one of five Privateers to notch double figures. Tim Hoch (18 points), Isaiah Hayes (16 points, eight blocks), Patrick MacDonald (14 points) and Tim McQuail (13 points) led the Maritime charge.

The Brewers jumped out on the Privateers early. Gettings highlighted the early surge with a triple to double Vassar's lead, 10-5, before Murray capped the run with a layup.

Maritime retaliated with a run of its own, scoring 13 of the following 15 points to reclaim its advantage, 18-4. The sides exchanged buckets, as the Privateers slowly extended its bulge to as many as 39-31 with 1:43 to go.

Browne and Mattie Mrlik drained back-to-back triples to pull within two before Liccese tossed up a triple at the buzzer for Martime to take a 42-37 advantage into the break.

The Privateers nailed the first two field goals of the second half before the Brewers scored six of the next nine to make it a 50-43 ballgame. Browne highlighted the mini run with a fancy reverse layup before capping it with another two-pointer in the paint.

Maritime pushed its lead to as many as 11, but the Brewers kept at it, using an 11- 5 burst to pull within five, 59-54. Dyslin found his shooting stroke during the stretch, draining three straight field goals for the Brewers — a layup, a jumper and another two-pointer.

Just as Dylin had found his stride, as did Liccese over the next two minutes, connecting on a jumper in between assists to Hayes for a two and Hoch for a three, 69-56.

Vassar strung together eight straight points, thanks to three layups from Chris Gallivan and another from Seff, before Maritime hit back with a 12-2 run, capped by Hoch's trey from the corner, 81-66.

The Brewers outscored the Privateers 19-11 the rest of the way, as Maritime held on for its first win since its season-opener.

Vassar hits the road for the Rochester Thanksgiving Tournament, facing Elmira College on Day One, Saturday, Nov. 26. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
