McFarland Slots Game-Winner For Vassar In OT Thriller

TROY, NY (October 8, 2016) — The Vassar College women's soccer team rallied to take down RPI in overtime, 2-1, at East Campus Stadium on Saturday.

Rebecca Andrews scored the equalizer on a penalty kick in the 59th minute, and Amanda McFarland notched the game-winner in the 91st minute, as the Brewers and Engineers each put up 13 shots.

To win the game, McFarland booted a left-footed shot around a defender, beyond a diving goalkeeper and into the left netting from about six yards out.

Stephanie Tapolsky earned the win for Vassar (6-5-1, 4-0-0) with three saves, while Joey Lyons took the loss for RPI (9-3-0, 1-2-0) with four stops.

With the win, the Brewers remain undefeated through conference play, putting them at the No. 1 spot in the Liberty League standings, alongside No. 1 William Smith College (12-0-0, 4-0-0 Liberty).

Vassar continues its three-game raod trip at Rochester Institute of Technology on Friday, Oct. 14 at 4 p.m. before competing at William Smith on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m.
