ROCHESTER, NY (October 14, 2016) — The Vassar College women's soccer team improved to 5-0 in conference play, marking the best Liberty League start in program history, with a 1-0 win at Rochester Institute of Technology on Friday.
The previous record was actualized in 2010 when the Brewers won their first three games in conference play before finishing the season with a 12-5-2 overall and 5-2-0 Liberty League mark.
With the win, which also marks the Brewers' sixth straight, Vassar (7-5-1, 5-0-0) stands atop of the conference standings with 15 points, alongside No. 1 William Smith College (13-0-0, 5-0-0).
Rebecca Andrews scored almost immediately out of the break to give the Brewers a game-winning edge in the 49th minute. The junior midfielder, who has notched 13 points over the past six games, found the top corner of the net from about 20 yards out. With that, Andrews ranks third in the conference with seven goals, only behind William Smith's Kara Shue (nine goals) and Evie Manning (eight), and Clarkson University's Lauren Flynn (eight).
The Brewers outshot the hosting Tigers 10-9 overall. Goalkeeper Stephanie Tapolsky fended away four shots for the win, while Kelly Rogers took the loss for RIT (6-6-1, 2-3-1 Liberty) with seven stops.
It'll be a quick turnaround for the Brewers, who travel to Geneva, NY for a match against William Smith on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m.
