Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Brewers Best MSMC In Midweek Matchup, 4-1

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 5, 2016) — The Vassar College women's soccer team topped Mount Saint Mary College 4-1 in a non-conference meeting at Gordon Field on Wednesday.

Vassar dominated the possession battle, outshooting its visitor, 22-4 overall. Stephanie Tapolsky earned the win for the Brewers (5-5-1, 3-0-0 Liberty) with two saves, while Mary Riley took the loss for the Knights (4-8-0, 3-2-0) with four stops.

"The team in general had a good game," coach Corey Holton said. "We went deep into the bench, which was nice to be able to do."

The Brewers got the ball rolling in the 23rd minute, as Audrey Pillsbury passed ahead to Rory Chipman, who had a clear shot into the right corner.

"It was definitely hard coming into a midweek game, trying to focus up," senior captain Emily Krebs said. "But once we got on the field and started scoring, Rory was kind of the catalyst that got us going, it was a good win."

Freshman Gabrielle Deitch started the second half with a bang, notching back-to-back goals within a four-minute span. For the first goal, Rebecca Andrews passed off to the right to Deitch, who came off her line, broke away and slotted the ball into the left side of the net. For the second goal, Deitch shook her defender, crossing to the right, inside the box before tucking the ball into the right side from about 15 yards out.

The Knights spoiled the Brewers' shutout in the 72nd minute, as Theresa Stinson notched her third goal of the year. Stinson spun around her defender, as her shot from outside the penalty box curve into the far, right side.

Emily Krebs capped scoring in the 85th minute with her second goal of the season. Coming in from the right side, the senior captain broke tackle after tackle before sliding the ball into the net from inside the six

Vassar picks up conference play with road games at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Saturday, Oct. 8 at 5 p.m.), Rochester Institute of Technology (Friday, Oct. 14 at 4 p.m.) and William Smith College (Saturday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m.) before returning to Poughkeepsie for a pair of games.

"We're excited," Krebs said. "We've been doing so well in conference, but we know that every game is one step at a time, so it's really important that we don't expect a win, that we go out and earn it."
