Vassar Women's Soccer Notes — MSMC

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 3, 2016) — The Vassar College women's soccer team (4-5-1, 3-0-0 Liberty) will conclude its four-game homestand on Wednesday, Oct. 5 against Mount Saint Mary College (NY). Kickoff from Gordon Field is set for 4 p.m.

The Brewers will be playing with gold laces to support Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer. 100 percent of the profits from the laces go to helping children with cancer as well as their families in our surrounding community.

Lace Up 4 Cancer began in 2011 through the Go4Goal initiative whose mission is to "improve the lives of children battling cancer by providing financial support, developing and implementing unique hospital programs, funding innovative research, and granting personal wishes." Last Time Out: Seniors highlighted the day, as Vassar blanked St. Lawrence University 4-0 on Senior Day at Gordon Field on Saturday. Looking at the seniors, Rory Chipman and Emily Krebs combined to score the game-winner, and Kelsey Hamm singlehandedly gave the Brewers a 3-0 advantage off a corner kick in the second half. Additionally, sophomore Rebecca Andrews and freshman Jordan Moss found the back of the net, thanks to assists from freshmen Savannah Cutler and Gabrielle Deitch, respectively.

A Look At The Brewers (4-5-1, 3-0-0):
  • Rebecca Andrews landed on the honor roll of this week's Liberty League release, as announced on Monday. The sophomore notched two goals, including a game-winner, in Vassar's 2-0 week. The full release can be read here
  • Vassar sits atop of the Liberty League standings with nine points, tied with William Smith College (10-0, 3-0).
  • In the Hero College Sports News rankings, Vassar jumped nine spots to No. 56 of 440 Division III women's soccer teams.
  • According to Massey Ratings, Vassar's strength of schedule is the 11th hardest in the country out of 435 Division III women's soccer teams.
  • The Brewers will ride a three-game winning streak into Wednesday's competition with the Knights, having beaten Skidmore College 7-1, Clarkson University 3-1 and St. Lawrence 4-0.
  • Following Wednesday's match with MSMC, Vassar has one more non-conference meeting in the regular season, facing Ramapo College in Poughkeepsie on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 3:30 p.m.
  • The Brewers have outshot opponents 158-94 overall and 78-48 in shots-on-goal. Of their 21 total goals, 17 have been assisted.
  • Vassar has picked up its aggression in the second half, scoring more than three times as many goals after the break, 16-5.
  • Rebecca Andrews has significantly picked up her scoring, finding the back of the net four times through the first three games of conference play. The sophomore now leads the Brewers with 10 points on five goals, which are tied for the third most scores in the conference.
  • Savannah Cutler is finding her stride during her freshman campaign, notching four assists over the first three games of conference play. Those four helps are good for second in the league.
  • Stephanie Tapolsky has been solid in net for the Brewers, fending away 34 shots for a 3-5-0 record, including a shutout. Fellow keeper Phoebe Reuben has also spent time in the cage, making two saves for a 0-0-1 mark.
 
A Look At The Knights (4-7-0, 3-2-0):
  • With their 4-7-0 record thus far this season, the Knights have struggled in comparison to their 2015 campaign. Last season, MSMC finished 15-8-2 overall and 9-1-0 in conference play.
  • The Knights have struggled significantly on the road with a 1-6-0 mark, compared to their 3-1-0 record at home.
  • In the 2015 Skyline Conference Tournament, MSMC beat College of Mount Saint Vincent, tied with The Sage Colleges and lost to St. Joseph's College in the third round.
  • In the 2015 ECAC Metro/Upstate Tournament, MSMC topped Stockton University before falling to New York University in the second round.
  • This season, the Knights have outshot opponents 203-129 overall and 117-69 in shots-on-goal. Of their 37 total tallies, 28 have been assisted.
  • MSMC has played significantly better in the first half. Of its 37 goals, 23 have occurred before halftime.
  • Fifteen different Knights have found the back of the net, and five different players lead the team with four goals each.
  • Destiny Ribadeneyra (two goals, nine assists) and Bridget McKeever (four goals, five assists) pace the Knights with 13 points apiece. Allison Jones and Jackie Davis have also been strong on offense, each totaling 10 points on four goals and two assists.
  • Mary Riley has made 44 saves for a 4-7-0 record, including a shutout. Fellow keeper Molly Jensen has made two stops over four appearances.

Against MSMC All-Time: The Brewers are 16-2-1 versus the Knights all-time, dating back to their first meeting in 1992. After winning 16 straight, MSMC topped Vassar 1-0 in Poughkeepsie last season.
