Brewers Fall in OT, 80-73

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 30, 2016) - The Vassar College men's basketball team fell to St. Lawrence University in overtime, 80-73, on Saturday.

After one half, the game was tied at 33, and after two, it was deadlocked at 66, but the Saints outscored the Brewers, 14-7, in the extra period for the win.

The game was neck-and-neck, featuring 11 ties and 18 lead changes. In the first half, neither team led by more than five points. The Saints led by as many as 10 about midway through the second, but the Brewers ended the half on a 16-6 run to force more time.

Alex Seff (Arlington, VA/Washington-Lee) scored the game-tying triple with 11 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime, where the Saints scored seven unanswered at one point to win their third straight game.

The Brewers fall to 9-10 overall and 5-5 in conference play, while the Saints improve to 10-7 and 6-3 in the Liberty League.

Four Brewers scored in double figures: Paul Grinde (Virginia Beach, VA/Cape Henry Collegiate School) had a team-high 18 points with nine rebounds, Seff totaled a career-best 16 points and nine rebounds, Jesse Browne (Barrington, RI/Deerfield Academy) added 14 points, and Mickey Adams (Boston, MA/St. Sebastian's) finished with 13.

Vassar shot 46 percent from the floor and 31 percent (8-26) from three, while St. Lawrence shot 41 percent and 45 percent (9-of-20), respectively. The Saints edged the Brewers from the line, hitting 11 to Vassar's five. Both teams grabbed 42 rebounds.

Turnovers were an issue for the Brewers, who allowed 15 points off their 16 giveaways.

Kyle Edwards led the Saints with 18 points, while Willie Zachery had 15, Riley Naclerio scored 11, and Dom DeRegis finished with 11 in 12 minutes off the bench.

Vassar concludes its four-game homestead next weekend, as it hosts Hobart College on Friday at 8 p.m. and Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday at 4 p.m.
