POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (September 19, 2015) – The Vassar offense turned in its best performance of the season Saturday afternoon, getting six goals from six different scorers to blank Manhattanville 6-0. The Brewers dominated from the get-go in the game at Gordon Field, outshooting the Valiants 31-1 with an 11-0 edge in corner kicks. VC improves to 4-2 on the season and 20-2 all-time vs. the Valiants with the win, while Manhattanville drops to 1-4.
It didn't take long for Vassar to light up the scoreboard, getting a goal from senior Lucy Brainerd (Littleton, CO/Heritage) in the fifth minute of the contest. Brainerd controlled a long arcing cross from junior Kelsey Hamm (Wilmington, NC/John T. Hoggard), and powered a shot from 20 yards out into the back right of the cage.
Hamm was next to break into the scoring column, blasting a deep shot from the right wing over the outstretched hands of the Valiant keeper. Freshman Dahlia Chroscinski (Hummelstown, PA/Hershey) tallied the final goal of the half for the Brewers, netting a header in the 35th minute off a feed from fellow freshman Megan Coughlan (Duluth, MN/Marshall School).
VC didn't waste time padding the lead in the second half, getting a goal from freshman Rebecca Andrews (Los Altos, CA/Los Altos) in the 51st minute off a Amanda McFarland (Redwood City, CA/Melno) corner kick. Senior Kamaria Coley (Washington, DC/Acad. Of the Holy Cross) posted her first goal of the season in the 65th minute, taking a pass from Chroscinski down the middle of the pitch and scoring past the charging goalie.
Junior Jordan Matthews (Newton, MA/Newton North) wrapped up the scoring for Vassar with the final goal of the contest in the 74th minute. She collected a Emily Krebs (Newport Beach, CA/Corona Del Mar) pass inside the box, then finished easily into the left corner to tally her first of the year.
Vassar goalkeepers Emma Nichols (Lexington, MA/Lexington) and Cayla Neipris (Encinitas, CA/San Diego Jewish Acad.) posted the combined shutout, stopping the only Valiant shot that came their way. Dolores Diemicke finished with 10 saves for Manhattanville.
Vassar will have a quick turnaround, as the team gets set to host SUNY-New Paltz on Tuesday, September 22 at 4:00 pm.
