CAMBRIDGE, MA (April 18, 2015) – No. 13 Massachusetts Institute of Technology swept singles and won two of three doubles matches to clinch a 8-1 head-to-head victory over No. 22 Vassar Saturday afternoon. The Brewers move to 11-5 on the year and wrap up non-conference competition for the season with the loss, while MIT improves to 14-5.

Freshmen Kate Christensen (Los Angeles, CA/Connections Academy) and Morgan Fitzgerald (Encinitas, CA/Cal Coast Academy) tallied the lone win for the Brewers on the day, topping Dora Tzeng and Krystal Lai at No. 3 doubles 8-6. The Engineers earned wins at No. 1 and No. 2 to carry a 2-1 edge heading into singles.

Senior Samantha Schapiro (Milford, NJ/Rutgers Preparatory School) played the lone three-set match on the day for VC, battling Victoria Tam at No. 3. After dropping the first set 6-4, Schapiro rallied to claim a 6-4 decision of her own in the second. Tam ultimately came out ahead in the tiebreak, winning 10-4 to secure the win.  

The Brewers will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at 2 pm when the team hosts the Rochester Institute of Technology at Joss Courts.
