NORTHAMPTION, MA (April 11, 2015) – Vassar was dominant on the courts in the first leg of the Seven Sisters Championships Saturday afternoon, earning a pair of 5-0 victories over Mount Holyoke College and Smith College. The Brewers did not surrender a set throughout the course of its 10 matches, and moves to 9-4 on the year in head-to-head competition with the wins.
VC started off the day with a 5-0 victory over Mount Holyoke, sweeping doubles and singles in straight sets. Freshman Kate Christensen (Los Angeles, CA/Connections Academy) got the win at No. 1 singles besting Margaux Holloschutz 6-2, 6-2, while senior Ava Sadeghi (Glendale, CA/Campbell Hall) topped Sarah Anischik 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 2. Junior Winnie Yeates (New Orleans, LA/Isidore Newman School) wrapped up singles for Vassar defeating Ishita Tibrewal 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3.
The Brewers made quick work of doubles, surrendering just two games between the No. 1 and No. 2 matches to put away the Lyons 5-0.
Vassar's doubles domination continued into its match with Smith in the afternoon, as the Brewers again dropped only two games between No. 1 and No. 2. Winnie Yeates and freshman Morgan Fitzgerald (Encinitas, CA/Cal Coast Academy) downed Margaret Anne Smith and Samantha Peikes 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1, while sophomores Shayna Becker (Murrieta, CA/University) and Hanna McGuire (Manhattan Beach, CA/Mira Costa) were perfect at No. 2 winning 6-0, 6-0 over Jordan Dubin and Alexandra Steck.
The Brewers went 3-0 in singles against the Pioneers, as Sadegi, freshman Courtney Geiss (Charleston, SC/Laurel Springs School) and junior Kelsey Van Noy (Houston, TX/Duchesne Academy Sacred Heart) all earned wins to seal the team's second 5-0 victory of the day.
The Brewers will be back at it tomorrow to face Bryn Mawr College (10:30 am) and Wellesley College (3 pm) on the final day of the Seven Sisters Tournament.
