ORANGE, CA (March 21, 2015) – No. 30 Vassar won two of three in doubles, then rattled off five more singles victories to top No. 32 Chapman University 7-2 in the team's spring trip finale Saturday afternoon. The Brewers finished 3-2 overall during the weeklong excursion in Southern California, playing a loaded schedule complete with five nationally ranked teams. VC now stands at 5-4 on the season, while the Panthers drop to 4-6.
Seniors Samantha Schapiro (Milford, NJ/Rutgers Preparatory School) and Ava Sadeghi (Glendale, CA/Campbell Hall) picked up right where they left off from yesterday, claiming up their fourth win of the trip at No. 1 doubles. The duo bested Andrea Hammer and Rachel Fox 8-5 to earn their 17th victory as a pair this year.
Freshmen Kate Christensen (Los Angeles, CA/Connections Academy) and Morgan Fitzgerald (Encinitas, CA/Cal Coast Academy) sealed the second doubles victory for VC, downing Lauren Ross and Mady Strahl 8-1 at No. 3 to give the Brewers a 2-1 advantage heading into singles.
Vassar was dominant in singles play, winning all five of its matches in two sets to secure the team victory. Sadeghi clinched the match for the Brewers with a 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 2, while Christensen, Schapiro, Fitzgerald and junior Winnie Yeates (New Orleans, LA/Isidore Newman School) all tallied victories for the Brewers.
VC will now turn its attention to Liberty League competition, returning to Josselyn Tennis Courts on Friday, April 3 to host RPI at 2:30 pm
