HARTFORD, CT (February 20, 2015) -- The Vassar College men's squash team opened play in the College Squash Association Team Championships Friday evening, dispatching of Ithaca College 8-1 in the opening match of pool play in the H Division of the Championships. The Brewers will take on the University of Notre Dame at 7:10 p.m. Saturday evening in the Pool 1 finale, and would clinch a spot in Sunday mornings H Division title match with a win over the Fighting Irish.
Sophomore
Vincent Mencotti (Birmingham, MI/Brother Rice) rolled past Quin Crofton with scores of 118, 11-3 and 11-3 at No. 1, while Tim Veit (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) outlasted Ethan Feller in five sets, earning an 11-5, 11-3, 7-11, 10-2 and 11-7 victory at No. 2. Junior
Juan Fernandez (Colonia Chimalliistac, Mexico/United World College Costa Rica) earned a straight set win at No. 3, posting an 11-6, 11-5 and 11-9 win, while senior
Ryan Kurtzman (Chicago, IL/Latin School of Chicago) breezed at No. 5 with an 11-3, 11-2, 11-6 score land. Senior
Noah Kulick (Cambridge, MA/Beaver Country Day) allowed just nine points in three sets in his No. 6 win, while the Brewers earned default wins at No. 7-No. 9 in the ladder.
