WALTHAM, MA (October 31, 2015) – The Vassar College women's volleyball team finished its 2015 season Saturday afternoon, splitting two matches in a tri-match hosted by Brandies University. Vassar fell to Babson College in the opener with scores of 27-25, 25-12 and 25-19, finishing up the season with a win over host Brandies in four games, 25-18, 25-19, 17-25 and 25-18.
Babson 3, Vassar 0The Beavers were very strong offensively Saturday against Vassar, hitting .228 (34-13-92) for the match, though the Brewers did battle over the first set. Down 18-14, the Brewers posted five straight points to pull ahead of Babson (23-8) at 19-18. Vassar continued to lead and had game point at 24-23 after a kill by freshman
Devan Gallagher (San Francisco, CA/Urban School of San Francisco).
After Babson fought off the first set point, VC again had a chance to earn the game, but the Beavers rallied with three straight points to earn the win 27-25. The second set was all Babson thanks to efficient hitting, posting 10 kills and only two errors on 19 attacks to take a 2-0 lead. In the final set, VC was close through the middle of the game, but the Beavers slowly pulled away to earn the match.
Gallagher once again chalked up double-digit kills for the Brewers, leading the match with 11 finishes on 26 attacks, posting a .346 hitting percentage. Sophomore
Alex Sams (Los Angeles, CA/Beverly Hills) added seven kills, and
Chloe Hallum (Olympia, WA/Olympia) and
Lauren Ninkovich (Portland, OR/Oregon Episcopal School) finished with 14 and 10 digs, respectively.
Vassar 3, Brandeis 1The Brewers finished the season on a high note, sending seniors
Paige Benson (Elk Grove, CA/Bradshaw Christian School) and Hallum out with a victory. Hallum went out with a bang in her final outing as a Brewer, as she chalked up 22 digs and a game-best five service aces. On her career, Hallum finishes as the all-time leader at Vassar in digs per set with 4.77, while posting 1,968 digs in the burgundy and gray.
Gallagher finished the season with a big offensive outburst, exploding for 16 kills to finish with 290 on the season, leading the squad. Gallagher becomes the first player to lead VC in kills as a freshman since Chloe McGuire accomplished the feat in 2008. Sophomore
Sophia Tiajoloff (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) finished her second season with VC with her third career double-double, chalking up 21 assists and 14 digs in the win.
Sophomore
Bria Corham (Kansas City, MO/Montville Township) posted 12 kills, four digs and two aces against Brandeis, while Ninkovich added a career-high 15 digs. VC finished with 11 aces in the match, and hit .211 on the match, which propelled the Brewers to the season-finishing victory.

Vassar finishes the 2015 campaign 14-15, but will return 11 of its 13 letter winners next season in 2016.
