ROCHESTER, NY (October 3, 2015) – The Vassar College women's volleyball team finished a four-match Liberty League weekend at Rochester Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon, dropping both ends of a conference doubleheader. Vassar (8-9, 3-5 Liberty League) fell to the host Tigers in straight sets in the early match, followed by a loss to No. 18 Clarkson University in three games later in the afternoon.
RIT 3, Vassar 0Rochester Institute of Technology (12-8, 2-1 Liberty League) got a match-best 16 kills from Sarah Szybist, and Erin Parkinson added a double-double for the Tigers as the Brewers fell with scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-23.
Vassar led for much of the first set, taking a 23-20 edge after a kill by junior
Gabby Miller (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon), which forced a timeout by RIT. The Tigers came out of the timeout and wouldn't surrender another point, getting three kills by Szybist during the set-winning 5-0 run to take a 1-0 match lead. In the second set, RIT connected on a match-high 15 kills to take a 2-0 lead into the third set.
In the third game, RIT used a 4-0 spurt early and another five-point stretch to take a 12-8 lead. The Brewers stayed in the set and eventually tied the game at 18 after an attack error by the Tigers. RIT scored four of the next six points but VC again pulled even at 22 after an ace by freshman
Annie MacMillan (Colorado Springs, CO/Coronado). In the end, RIT was able to win the match as Szybist finished the contest with a kill.
Freshman
Devan Gallagher (San Francisco, CA/Urban School of San Francisco) finished with a team-high 12 kills, and Miller added seven kills, seven digs and two aces. Senior
Chloe Hallum (Olympia, WA/Olympia) added a match-best 11 digs for Vassar, which finished with seven aces. MacMillan posted 21 assists as well in the loss.
No. 18 Clarkson 3, Vassar 0Clarkson held the Brewers to a season-low 19 kills for the match, as the Brewers fell to CU with scores of 25-18, 25-9 and 25-14. The Golden Knights (16-3, 8-0 Liberty) connected for 42 kills, led by the 12 from Aishvina Arasu, as they hit .362 for the match.
Vassar was led overall by the seven kills from Miller, and sophomore
Bria Corham (Kansas City, MO/Montville Township) added five terminations as well. Hallum posted another match-high against Clarkson in digs, registering 16 against the Golden Knights.
Kirstie Shurie chalked up a double-double of 35 assists and 10 digs, while Tara Stillwell added 14 digs in the back for Clarkson. Rachael Aird booked eight kills, and Victoria Kirkemo and Danielle Farabee each posted six kills.

The Brewers will return to action this Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in Kenyon Hall, hosting Stevens Institute of Technology for their first home game in 28 days.
