Full ResultsHAVERFORD, PA (January 24, 2015) – The Vassar College men's squash team got back on the courts Saturday afternoon following the semester break, but dropped an 8-1 decision to the Fords of Haverford College.
The Fords, who upped their mark to 7-5 on the season, controlled the lower part of the ladder leading to the match victory. Vassar College's lone win over the afternoon came at No. 1, as
Vincent Mencotti (Birmingham, MI/Brother Rice) outlasted his Haverford opponent 14-12, 11-6, 8-11 and 11-5 in four sets. Mencotti now leads the Brewers in wins with six on the season.
Sophomore Tim Veit (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) battled at No. 2 but fell 11-4, 11-7 and 11-4, while senior
Noah Kulick (Cambridge, MA/Beaver Country Day) had some bright spots before falling 11-4, 11-1 and 11-8 at No. 5. Juan Pablo Fernandez (Colonia Chimalistac, Mexico/United World College Costa Rica) made his first appearance of 2014-15 at No. 6, falling 12-10, 11-5 and 11-1, while
Ben Kurchin (Rochester, NY/Harley School) also saw his first action of the season, falling 11-3, 11-7 and 11-7.
The Brewers are back in action next Saturday, hosting the Hudson Valley Team Tournament in Kenyon Hall. Play starts at 10 a.m. on the Vassar Squash Courts against Bard College, Brandeis University and Fordham University.
