Results

CANTON, NY (April 26, 2014) – The Vassar College women's tennis team got off to a good start to the Liberty League Playoffs in the opening round with a 5-0 sweep of #7 seeded Rochester Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon at St. Lawrence University's Newell Field House.

The Brewers got the early 3-0 lead after doubles but it was senior Lindsay Kantor (Manhattan Beach, NY/Manhattan Beach) who clinched the 5-0 win. She bested Paige Baker 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles after sophomore Lauren Stauffer (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) got the first victory in singles at No. 5 with a full 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Gianna Heaviland.

Stauffer also teamed with sophomore Kelsey Van Noy (Houston, TX/Duchesne Academy Sacred Heart) for a commanding 8-1 No. 3 doubles win over Kelsie Redburn and Paige Baker. Both the No. 1 doubles team of Samantha Schapiro (Milford, NJ/Rutgers Preparatory School) and Shayna Becker (Murrieta, CA/University) and the No. 2 duo of Emily Hallewell (Washington, DC/Stone Ridge School Sacred Heart) and Winnie Yeates (New Orleans, LA/Isidore Newman School) had 8-5 victories in doubles.

"We played really well today and it was a great way to start competition in the playoffs," said head coach Kathy Campbell. "With Lindsay getting the match-clinching point at No. 4, it just couldn't have been better since she's a senior."

The Brewers will next either play #3 seeded St. Lawrence or #6 seeded Union College tomorrow at 2:00 pm.
