Match ProgramPOUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 16, 2014) – The Vassar College women's tennis team won its second-to-last regular season match 9-0 over Liberty League foe Bard College on Wednesday evening in the Walker Field House Bays.
The Brewers (11-4, 4-1 Liberty League) powered through the Raptors (7-4, 0-2 Liberty League) with seven shutout matches and two matches that they only allowed one game each.
Senior
Lindsay Kantor (Westhampton Beach, NY/Westhampton Beach) picked up her 103
rd and 104
th wins in her second-to-last match at Vassar College. Both wins were in the No. 3 spots in doubles and singles and both were complete shutouts. She first teamed with sophomore
Lauren Stauffer (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) getting Vassar's second point of the match over Oguljemal Yaryyeva and Danielle Iserlis, 8-0. Later, she topped Tanya Leibman in matching 6-0 sets.
Despite giving one game to the Raptor pair of Lia Soorenian and Leibman, the No. 2 Vassar team of sophomore
Winnie Yeates (New Orleans, LA/Isidore Newman School) and freshman
Emily Hallewell (Washington, DC/Stone Ridges School Sacred Heart) struck first with the 8-1 victory. The Northeast Regionally-ranked #14 team of junior
Samantha Schapiro (Milford, NJ/Rutgers Preparatory School) and freshman
Shayna Becker (Murrieta, CA/University) cruised past Julia DeFabo and Nelle Plotkin 8-0.
Stauffer was credited with the match-clinching point at No. 4 singles when she swept Leibman in matching sets, 6-0. Becker also completed her perfect Liberty League day with a 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Yaryyeva at No. 5 singles. Hallewell and Yeates earned 2-0 records on the day as well at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, defeating DeFabo and Plotkin 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0, respectively.
Freshman
Connie Yoo (Irvine, CA/Beckman) earned her shutout win at No. 6 over Iserlis to round out the Vassar win.
Saturday is Senior Day for Kantor as friends and family of the Vassar College women's tennis team will celebrate her four years of service to the program as the Brewers host #13 Massachusetts Institute of Technology at 12:00 pm on the Josselyn Tennis Courts.
