Women's Tennis Rebounds With 8-1 Win Over CalTech

    PASADENA, CA (March 14, 2014) – The Vassar College women's tennis team swept doubles and nearly swept singles in its 8-1 win over California Technical Institute on Friday afternoon on the Braun Tennis Courts.

    Sophomores Kelsey Van Noy (Houston, TX/Duchesne Academy Sacred Heart) and Winnie Yeates (New Orleans, LA/Isidore Newman School) both posted 6-0 sets in singles for the Brewers (3-3). Van Noy topped Katie Antilla at No. 6 with mirrored results in both sets. Yeates defeated Michelle Lee 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3.

    Yeates also teamed with freshman Emily Hallewell (Washington, DC/Stone Ridge School Sacred Heart) at No. 2 doubles, picking up the solid 8-1 win over the Beavers' (5-4) Monica Li and Sophia Chen. Van Noy partnered with sophomore Lauren Stauffer (Litiz, PA/Manheim Township) for an 8-3 victory against Michelle Tange and Valerie Pietrasz.

    Junior Samantha Schapiro (Milford, NJ/Rutgers Preparatory School) and freshman Shayna Becker (Murrieta, CA/University) picked up the No. 1 doubles, 8-2 win against Lee and Jenny Sheng.

    Schapiro then got the No. 1 singles win over Li, 6-1, 6-3 while Becker took the 6-1, 6-2 No. 5 score against Chen. Senior Lindsay Kantor (Westhampton Beach, NY/Westhampton Beach) rounded out the Vassar winners at No. 4 over Tang, 6-4, 6-3.

    The Brewers will end their California stay on the courts of Chapman University on Saturday, March 15 at 10:00 am.
