NEW YORK, NY (December 6, 2014) -- The Vassar College men's squash team took on No. 48 Fordham University Saturday, and despite battling in some matches was unable to come away with the win in falling 9-0 to the Rams.
The Brewers best chance to earn a win on Saturday came at No. 9, as
Matthew Fastman (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY/Hastings) took his match to five sets. Playing Matt Ieraci from Fordham, Fastman earned the first set 11-9 to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Ieraci rallied to knot the score at one after a 11-4 win, but Fastman came back to take a 2-1 lead with a 11-8 triumph in the third set. Fastman couldn't hold on though, as Ieraci won the last two sets 11-8 and 11-7 to pull out the five-setter.
Vassar No. 1 player
Vincent Mencotti (Birmingham, MI/Brother Rice) took on rival Kincade Webster Saturday, and nearly earned the first set before falling 12-10. Mencotti couldn't get much else going though for the Brewers, as he fell 11-5 and 11-9 in the final two games.
The Brewers are off for the rest of 2014, reconvening in 2015 to take on Haverford College January 24 at 12:30 pm in Haverford, PA.
