Box Score vs. Haverford |
Box Score vs. NYUPOUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 8, 2014) – The Vassar College men's squash team hosted Haverford College and New York University Saturday afternoon, dropping a pair of non-conference matches in play from Kenyon Hall.
#36 Haverford 8, Vassar 1The Brewers took on the Fords of Haverford College first Saturday afternoon, after the regularly scheduled match with NYU was delayed due to travel problems for the Violets. Once Haverford arrived, the Fords were too strong for VC, though the Brewers hustled and battled the whole way.
After the Fords had clinched the match and led 8-0, Vassar's No. 1 player
Vincent Mencotti (Birmingham, MI/Brother Rice) stepped into the court looking to snatch a win for the Brewers. Mencotti fell behind early after a 11-9 loss, but responded with an 11-6 win to even the match.
Mencotti earned an 11-9 win in the third set, but fell behind early and saw his opponent knot the match at two sets apiece. In the final game, Mencotti took control and earned a solid 11-6 win. Senior captain
Ryan Kurtzman (Chicago, IL/Latin School of Chicago) won his first set 12-10, and earned seven points in the final three games before dropping his No. 5 match, and
Manav Dalmiya (Ridgewood, NJ/John Dewey Academy) earned a game in his exhibition match.
#42 NYU 9, Vassar 0The Brewers battled against the Violets, but in the end the depth of NYU was too much for Vassar. Mencotti played a very strong opponent in Max McAfferty at No. 1, winning the second set 11-6, but dropped the final two games in losing in four. Kurtzman again tested his opponent at No. 5, but fell 12-10, 11-6 and 12-10, while
Noah Kulick (Cambridge, MA/Beaver Country Day) won a set at No. 4, falling to Andre Li of NYU 11-4, 11-3, 10-12, 11-7.
