Box Score vs. SLU | Box Score vs. Hobart

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 23, 2014) -- The 2014 Liberty League Squash Championships, hosted by Vassar College, finished up Sunday afternoon from Kenyon Hall, and the Brewer men's squash team finished fourth overall after dropping matches to No. 2 St. Lawrence University and No. 26 Hobart College.

Defending champions St. Lawrence earned the Liberty League crown, knocking off No. 5 University of Rochester 6-3 in the final match of the afternoon to go 4-0 on the weekend. In earlier action, the Brewers dropped a 9-0 decision to the Saints, while falling 8-1 to Hobart College. Rochester knocked off Bard College 5-0, and Hobart defeated Bard 9-0 in the other matches Sunday afternoon.

No. 2 St. Lawrence 9, No. 57 Vassar 0
The Brewers took on one of the top teams in the nation in St. Lawrence in the first match of the day, but couldn't hang with the powerful Saints in falling 9-0. Sophomore Vincent Mencotti (Birmingham, MI/Brother Rice) played the top-ranked player in collegiate squash currently Amr Khalifa, and earned 15 points, while Lucas Fifer (New York, NY/Eleanor Roosevelt) also had some bright spots. The depth of the Saints was just too much in the end, as SLU came into the weekend with seven Top 100 players on the roster.

No. 26 Hobart 8, No. 57 Vassar 1
In the battle for third-place in the Liberty League Tournament, the Statesmen were able to earn early victories in clinching the 8-1 victory. In the last match of the tournament for the Brewers, Vassar was able to come away with a victory at No. 1, as Mencotti outlasted Felipe Pantle 12-10, 13-11 and 11-4 for his team-leading fifth win of the season. With his triumph, Mencotti evened his win total from his entire freshman season, whice lasted just one tournament due to injury. On the weekend, Mencotti was 2-2, falling only to Khalifa and Neil Cordell of Rochester, who is currently ranked No. 7 by the Collegiate Squash Association.
