Box Score BABSON PARK, MA (November 16, 2014) -- Vassar College got a game and career-high from junior guard
Caitlin Drakeley (Woodbury, CT/Nonnewaug) but in the end fell to No. 15 Williams College 75-67 in the final day of action from the Babson Invitational.
Drakeley finished the day 11-24 from the field, connecting on nine of her 13 attempts from the free throw line. She broke her previous career-high of 28 points set last year in the NCAA Tournament Second Round against Scranton University. Despite the 32 points from Drakeley, the Brewers couldn't overcome 24 percent first-half shooting.
In that deciding first period, the Brewers (0-2) led by as much as five at 9-4 following a pair of free throws from Drakeley. VC held its lead until 10:25 on the clock, as Amanni Fernandez drained a three-pointer to give Williams (2-0) a 16-15 advantage. Vassar tied the contest at 21 with 6:11 to play in the opening half, but the Ephs built their lead up to eight at the halftime intermission.
Williams continued to grow its lead up to as much as 18 in the second half, before the Brewers chipped it down to the final deficit of eight. In the end, it wasn't enough as VC dropped its second contest of the season.
Drakeley contributed seven rebounds to go with her game-high scoring output, while
Allyson Pemberton (Weston, MA/Weston) scored 10 points, making eight-of-nine from the line. Freshman
Ariella Rosenthal (Mill Valley, CA/Mill Valley) added eight points and five rebounds, and junior forward
Colleen O'Connell (Maywood, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) registered a game-best 10 rebounds.
Vassar shot 34.4 percent (21-61) from the field on the day, and connected on 23-of-28 from the free throw line (82.1 percent). All eight players that played for the Brewers scored at least one field goal as well. Fernandez paced Williams with a team-best 27 points off the bench, while Ellen Cook had 14 points as well for the Ephs.
The Brewers host the Hawks of New Paltz in non-conference action in the Athletics and Fitness Center Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in the home opener.
