POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Vassar women's tennis team picked up a pair of 9-0 victories against Union College and Bard College in the squad's first dual match competition of the season Saturday. The Brewers first traveled to Latham, NY to face Union this morning where the team swept singles and doubles, then returned to Poughkeepsie and Walker Field House to down Bard 9-0. VC is now stands at 2-0 in Liberty League competition on the year.

"The team was really excited because these were our first dual matches of the season," said head coach Kathy Campbell. "It was fun to be in that format, and to be inclusive of so many women on the team. It was a long day and this is our fourth consecutive weekend of [competition] and today was another two matches, so it was a lot of tennis…we did what we needed to do, and it was a really good team day in that regard."

Vassar went to work early with a 10:00 am start at Union, knocking off the Dutchmen 9-0 to get their first win of the day. Senior Ava Sadeghi (Glendale, CA/Campbell Hall) and junior Winnie Yeates (New Orleans, LA/Isidore Newman School) led the Brewers with two wins a piece in singles and doubles matches.

Back in Poughkeepsie, VC was perfect in its dual match against Bard, winning every game in both singles and doubles. The 2-0 start marks the first time since the 2011-12 season Vassar has won its first two dual matches in Liberty League competition.

The Brewers will next compete in the New York State Championships in Ithaca, NY on October 10-12. Six singles players and three doubles pairs will participate in the tournament.

As a result of winning the Northeast Regional, Christensen has punched a ticket to the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships. She will travel to Sumter, SC to compete at the Palmetto Tennis Center from October 9-12 against the field of regional qualifiers across the country.
