SCHENECTADY, NY (October 4, 2014) – The Union women's tennis team will host Vassar for the Brewers' first dual and Liberty League match. Competition will take place at the Tri-City Fitness courts. At the conclusion, Vassar College will face Bard College the same day back in Poughkeepsie, NY. The Brewers will take on Bard at 4:30 pm at the Joss Tennis Courts.

What to Look For:Union College is coming off a 2013-2014 season with an overall record of 8-5 and a Liberty League record of 2-2. Union's squad this season is young, with four freshmen, five sophomores, two juniors and no seniors. The team is currently 1-3 under interim head coach Don Dudley. Vassar and Union did not play last season, but in the spring of 2013, the Brewers swept the match 9-0.
Under head coach Andrew Constant, Bard finished its 2013-2014 season with a 7-7 overall record and a 0-3 league record. Three freshmen joined Bard's squad, and the team is currently 0-3. Six of Bard's 12 student athletes are international, including players from China, Singapore and Greece. Leading the Raptors are seniors Caia Diepenbrock and Berly Taylor. In the Vassar-Bard dual match last year, VC prevailed with a 9-0 victory.
Last Time Out:From September 27-29, Vassar College competed in the ITA Northern Regionals in Geneva, NY. Freshman
Kate Christensen (Lose Angeles, CA/Connections Academy) captured the singles championship after she defeated Brittany Reedman of The College of New Jersey 6-0, 6-0. She also did not drop a set throughout the entire tournament. Seniors
Ava Sadeghi (Glendale, CA/Campbell Hall) and
Samantha Schapiro (Milford, NJ/Rutgers Preparatory School) made it to the finals of the doubles draw where they fell to New York University's Laila El Dessouki and Carmen Lai 4-6, 6-3, 3-6. After losing in the first round, sophomore
Emily Hallewell (Washington, D.C./Stone Ridge Sch. Sacred Heart) won the singles consolation bracket.
Up Next:The Brewers will next compete in the New York State Championships in Ithaca, NY on October 10-12. Six singles players and three doubles pairs will participate in the tournament.
As a result of winning the Northeast Regional, Christensen has punched a ticket to the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships. She will travel to Sumter, SC to compete at the Palmetto Tennis Center from October 9-12 against the field of regional qualifiers across the country.
