POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 3, 2013) – The Vassar College women's tennis team gave up a total of eight games to Liberty League opponent, Union College Wednesday evening in Walker Field House for a 9-0 win.
Sophomores
Anisha Kurien and
Samantha Schapiro did not give up a single game in both singles and doubles. The doubles team of Kurien and senior captain
Natalie Santiago swept to a win in the No. 3 spot against Union's Karyn DeFranco and Nell Pinkston while Schapiro teamed with sophomore
Ava Sadeghi for another 8-0 win over Dee Dee Gaudian and Kate Collins.
The win gives the Brewers a record of 6-3(2-1 LL). They will next host the annual Seven Sisters Tennis Championships on Saturday, April 13-Sunday, April 14. Their first match begins at 9:30 am against Bryn Mawr College. Union drops to 4-3(0-2 LL) and will next Travel to Canton, NY to face Liberty League opponent, St. Lawrence University on Sunday, April 7 at 9:00 am.
Kurien went on to defeat No. 6 DeFranco, 6-0, 6-0 while Schapiro mirrored her result against No. 2 Hayley Lough. Junior
Lindsay Kantor also gave up no games in singles when she defeated Pinkston, 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4 spot.
Kantor teamed with freshman
Kelsey Van Noy for an 8-2 win against Camille Ertell and Lough at the No. 2 spot in doubles. “Our team did a good job of attacking the short balls today,” head coach
