Women's Tennis Wins Second Straight Seven Sisters Championships

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 14, 2013) – The Vassar College women's tennis team won their second straight Seven Sisters Championship Saturday afternoon, defeating Mount Holyoke, 5-0 and Wellesley, 4-1 at Josselyn Courts.

“It was really a team effort,” head coach Kathy Campbell said. “I wish I could have all of my team on the All-Tournament team with how consistent, composed and feisty they played” Sophomores Ava Sadeghi, Sam Schapiro and freshman Winnie Yeates earned All-Tournament. Wellesley had Veronica Lin and Suzanne Barth, Mount Holyoke had My-Linh Nguyen, Michelle Cai and Nahrhee Han, Smith had Carly Melillo and Tessy Lopez and Bryn Mawr had Melina Koukotchos on the All-Tournament Team.

The four wins this weekend gives the Nationally Ranked #25 and Northeast Regionally Ranked #10 Brewers an overall record of 10-3. They will next travel to Amherst, MA to face the #1 team in the Nation, Amherst College.

Vassar rolled to a 5-0 win over Mount Holyoke and was led by Schapiro. Schapiro did not give up one game against the No. 2 spot Sarah Anischik. The doubles team of Kelsey Van Noy and Hannah Van Demark walked away with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Mount Holyoke's Nguyen and Cai.

Yeates had the match-clinching win against Northeast Regionally Ranked #13 Wellesley. She defeated Catherine Matalis, 6-2, 6-3.
