Women's Tennis Posts Two Wins In Seven Sisters Championships

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 13, 2013) – The Vassar College women's tennis team rolled to two 5-0 wins over Bryn Mawr College and Smith College Saturday afternoon at the Josselyn Courts during the first round of the Seven Sisters Championships.

Junior Lindsay Kantor, sophomores Ava Sadeghi and Sam Schapiro and freshman Lauren Stauffer were all perfect in their matches today. Kantor and Stauffer teamed up for two 6-0, 6-0 wins against Smith's Kyle Gouchoe-Hanas and Andrea Tanco and Bryn Mawr's Kendall Baller and Vivien Chen. Sadeghi swept Bryn Mawr's Jenny Vogel and Smith's Jordan Dubin, 6-0, 6-0. Schapiro had the same scores against Smith's Seema Samawi and Bryn Mawr's Melina Koukotchos.

The two wins give the Brewers a record of 8-3 and they will next face Mount Holyoke College at 10:30 am and Wellesley College at 3:00 pm tomorrow, rounding out the Seven Sisters Championships.

Freshman Winnie Yeates swept Smith's Jinan Martiuk, 6-0, 6-0 and gave up one point to Bryn Mawr's Caty Austin, 6-1, 6-0.

Freshman Kelsey Van Noy teamed with Natalie Santiago for a 6-0, 6-1 win over Bryn Mawr's Rachel Genovese and Amelia Arnold. She then partnered with sophomore Hannah Van Demark for a 6-0, 6-0 win over Smith's Carly Millio and Tessy Lopez.

Senior Santiago also had a special day as she was honored in a gathering of her teammates, coaches and friends for her Senior Day.
