POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (March 30, 2013) – The Vassar College women's tennis team was blanked, 9-0 today against nationally ranked #20 Skidmore College.

Freshmen Winifred Yeates and Lauren Stauffer gave Skidmore's doubles pair of Melissa Hirsch and Yumi Karlshoej a run for their money in a close, 9-8(4) loss at the No. 2 spot. Yeates also went the distance in singles against Hirsch, losing 6-2, 2-6, 10-5 at the No. 3 spot while Stauffer had a near identical score against Robyn Baird at the No. 5 spot. Baird won the tiebreaker, 10-7.

The Brewers fall to 5-3 and will next host Union College on Wednesday, April 3 at 4:00 pm. Skidmore improves to 5-5 on the season and will next compete in the Nor'Easter Bowl on April 5-7 at Wellesley College.

“Winnie (Yeates) and Lauren (Stauffer) played a great match in doubles,” head coach Kathy Campbell said. “Our young team knows what they have to work on and will use today's match as motivation and focus to continue improving their games.”

Fellow classmate of Yeates and Stauffer, Kelsey Van Noy fought hard in a close, 6-4, 6-4 loss at the No. 6 singles spot against Skidmore's Caroline Hobbs.
