Women's Tennis Sweeps Union In Liberty League Quarters

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (May 4, 2012) -- The No. 2 seed Vassar College women's tennis team advanced to the Liberty League Championship semifinals with a 5-0 win over No. 7 Union College on Friday at Walker Field House.

The Brewers (14-4) will face the winner of No. 6 RIT and No. 3 St. Lawrence on Saturday at 2:00 pm at Josselyn Tennis Courts, weather permitting. In earlier action, No. 1 Skidmore swept No. 8 Bard and No. 4 William Smith edged No. 5 RPI 5-3.

Vassar swept doubles 3-0, led by a win at No. 1 by Joy Backer and Ava Sadeghi over Brittany Gilbert and Dee Dee Gaudian 8-1. 

The Brewers clinched the victory with a pair of quick wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Sadeghi double-bageled Andrea Coopersmith 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Jennifer Beckerman cruised 6-1, 6-0 over Gilbert at No. 1 singles.
