SOUTH HADLEY, MA (April 14, 2012) -- The Vassar College women's tennis team raced to 5-0 wins over Smith College and Bryn Mawr College on the first day of the five-team Seven Sisters Championships on Saturday at Mount Holyoke College Tennis Courts. The tournament employs a unique match format consisting of three singles points and two doubles points using seven different players with no repeated players.

The tournament resumes on Sunday with the Brewers facing host Mount Holyoke at 10:30 am and the reigning Seven Sisters Champion Wellesley College at 3:00 pm.

Against Smith, Jennifer Ruther cruised 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles over Bayla Weick. The No. 2 doubles team of Lindsay Kantor and Hannah Van Demark knocked off Julia Signell and Allie Ryan with a pair of breadsticks 6-1, 6-1.

Against Bryn Mawr, Vassar surrendered a total of two games in a dominant 5-0 sweep.
