SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (March 31, 2012) -- The Vassar College women's tennis team went ahead 4-1 but Skidmore College strung together four wins at the bottom of the lineup to steal a narrow 5-4 win on Saturday.

With the match even at 4-4, Skidmore's Robyn Baird defeated Hannah Van Demark 6-3, 6-1 to complete the comeback.

"Our team is not the least bit discourged, and there's nothing more we're looking forward to than playing them again," said head coach Kathy Campbell

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) No. 25 Brewers (7-4, 3-1 Liberty) next face RPI on the road on April 6 at 4:00 pm. The ITA No. 24 Thoroughbreds face University of Rochester on April 1 at 1:00 pm.

Vassar went up 2-1 at the break with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Lindsay Kantor and VanDemark knocked off Melissa Hisch and Yumi Karleshoej 8-4 at No. 3. Jennifer Beckerman and Samantha Schapiro slipped past Tory Engross and Alex Smith 9-7 at No. 2.

"We played very well across the board in doubles and I was proud of the way we competed in tight situations," said Campbell.

In singles, Ava Sadeghi rolled 6-2, 6-1 on Engross at No. 2 singles and Beckerman cruised 6-2, 6-3 against  Hirsch at No. 1 to put Vassar ahead 4-1. With only four courts used, No. 5 and No. 6 had later starts, setting up for the dramatic finish.

Skidmore pulled out wins in the four remaining matches, including a 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6) three-set win by Nataly Mendoza over Joy Backer at No. 3.
