Women's and Men's Squash Opens 2012-13 Season Saturday

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 7, 2012) – The Vassar College men's and women's squash teams will begin their 2012-13 schedule Saturday, November 10 when the women host Haverford College and club team NYU while the men host Fordham University and Haverford.

Men vs. Fordham: 11:00 am, Kenyon Hall

Women vs. NYU: 12:00 pm, Kenyon Hall

Women vs. Haverford (Senior Day)/men vs. Haverford: 3:00 pm, Kenyon Hall

Vassar Women vs. Haverford Highlight: The women's team will honor their six seniors in pre-match ceremonies. Andrea Fahmy, Sanam Khanna, Jill Levine, Libby Pei, Avery Siciliano and Nancy Zhang will be celebrated.

Vassar Women's Notes: The Brewers have a veteran team with six seniors and three sophomores. Vassar finished last season with a record of 6-14. In last year's Guy Fawkes Challenge, the Brewers defeated Haverford College 9-0.

Pei led the Brewers by winning five of her last ten matches last season and finishing with a three-win streak. She also finished with a record of 7-5 at the No. 2 spot. Siciliano was undefeated in the No. 5 spot as well.

Vassar Men's Notes: Vassar finished last season with a record of 10-15 and defeated Haverford 7-2 last year. In their last meeting, Vassar defeated Fordham 7-2 in a dual match in NYC.

Sophomore Michael Sankovich will lead the Brewers with a 15-10 record in the No. 1 spot. Senior Jacob Harris will take the No. 2 spot after finishing with a record of 9-4 last year in that position. Harris also ended the year with a five-game win streak and won eight of his last ten matches.

Haverford Women's Notes: Haverford finished last year as the 32nd-ranked team in the College Squash Association (CSA).
Junior Caroline Nightingale will lead Haverford at the No. 1 spot.

Haverford Men's Notes: The men finished last season 7-13 by winning their last five matches.
Senior Andy McComas will most likely be their No. 1 player after a 5-5 record at the No. 2 spot last year.

NYU Women's Notes: The women return every player from last year's roster who didn't graduate or have selected to study abroad. The women defeated Minnesota, Cal-Berkeley and Washington University in last year's national tournament.

Coaches: Vassar is coached by Jane Parker now in her 13th season. Haverford is coached by Niki Clement in her third year. NYU is coached by Tony Maruca and Fordham is coached by Bryan Patterson.
