POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 17, 2012) - Day one of the men's squash Liberty League Championships concluded with both St. Lawrence University and the University of Rochester walking away with two perfect wins at Vassar's Kenyon Hall Saturday.
Vassar and Bard opened up the tournament with a close match. The Brewers were able to bring the final score to 6-3 after Bard unfortunately had to forfeit two matches at the No. 8 and No. 9 spots. Senior
Jake Harris, who played No. 1, took down Bard's Dylan Coburn with a score of 3-0 (11-6, 11-2, 11-5). No. 2 spot senior Rob Ruggiero also went 3-0 in his match vs. Mihir Mukhopadhaya (11-9, 11-4, 11-6).
St. Lawrence and Rochester swept across the board. In St. Lawrence's match vs. Bard, the top three players Sabastian Riedelsheimer, Anderson Good and Chris Fernandez led the team to their victory while Kyle Oglivy, Ibrahim Khan and Riedelsheimer took the top three against Hobart.
Rochester's Andres Duany (No. 1), Neil Cordell (No. 2) and Adam Perkiomaki (No. 3) had near perfect matches against Hobart and Vassar. Duany did go four sets against Hobart's No. 1 McGee O'Neil (11-8, 5-11, 11-3, 12-10).
The Liberty League Championships will continue on Sunday at Kenyon Hall. The first match of the day will take place at 9 a.m.
